I think it's important to keed your pet healthy.  Each time I adopted a cat, my vet gives the new cat the medication for that.  Because my cats are indoor cats, they get the treatment only one time.
But even if the cats are indoor cats, they have to be vaccinated every year for rabies because of the law where I live.  It's because some "wild" animals might get into your house and contaminate the cats or dogs.... animals like squirels (we had one at one time), bats, raccoons, skunks, etc.
The bottom line is that if I choose to own a cat (*), I want to take good care of it.  The cats always have been part of our family!

(*) I know..... I don't own the cats..... the cats own me ;-)

It is an important part on keeping your pet healthy!  Worms are passed to the babies through the mother and can cause major health problems in your pet.  It's as simple as a shot and you have a healthy pet.

Worms are very common in cats and dogs. Besides passing from parent to offspring they can also be passed from one animal to another (through fleas, sharing a litter box, or eating poop) and can also be passed through contaminated food (the most vibrant example would be a cat eating an infected mouse or a dog eating raw pork off the counter.)

Most cats and dogs will have worms at one or more times during its life. Generally this will not kill them (unless their immune system is already weakened or it is a case of heart worms) but it's never good for them. A worm after all is eating everything your pet eats and it might even cause stomach cramping and other issues. Basically put if you want a happy pet it's good to have them wormed whenever the need arises. There are a lot of different wormers on the market these days and many of them work very well.

Preventing heartworm can save lives (or at the very least MUCH pain and suffering and a huge vet bill if you try to clear it up after an infestation has begun.) Preventing worms in all pets will help you not accidentally contract them either and yes... they can infect humans sometimes. It is not common but it can happen. Hope this helps.

If you care about your pet (whether it's a dog or cat), you must make sure it is dewormed.  If you take the pet to a Vet., he will make sure you do as part of his care.
Some worms can suck the life right out of a dog.  The dog becomes anemic and can die if they are not treated.

Yes, agree. Deworming is very important. Good to have annual fecal tests run. My dogs get  for a good part protection against several worms through their monthly heartworm pills. Also, some worms can pose serious health hazards to people too. Read about visceral larvae migrans in children causing blindness when toxocara canis (roundworm) eggs are accidentally ingested.
